Zoltan Hunyady – Wrestling (1994-1998)
Arguably the greatest Gryphon Wrestler ever to represent the University of Guelph on the mat, Zoltan Hunyady was a dominating force in each of his 5 years of competition. In his first year with the Gryphons, Zoltan was team MIP and later selected as the teams MVP on three different occasions. Zoltan captured OUA gold medals in 1994, 1995, 1996, 1997, and in 1998. At the national championships Zoltan brought home CIAU silver medals in 1994, 1995 and 1997 and 2 CIAU gold medals in 1996 and 1998. A 3-time team captain of the Guelph Gryphons, 5 time OUA All-star and CIAU All-Canadian, Zoltan was awarded the University of Guelph’s prestigious Male Athlete of the Year award in 1996.
Zoltan continues to wrestle and over the years has won titles at the Canadian Senior Nationals, the Athens Olympic Trails, the Pan American Games, Canada Cup and at the Espoir National Greco-Roman and Freestyle championships, just to name a few. Recently Zoltan represented Canada at the world championships and in his spare time assists in the coaching future Gryphon mat hopefuls with the University of Guelph’s Wrestling team.
Zoltan graduated from the University of Guelph with a Bachelor of Science degree in 1999.
