"Don Mason arrived in 1958 at the new pool of the Ontario Agricultural College with a strong reputation for building Aquatics Programs. He coached the "Redmen" teams for eight years, including a record 5 consecutive O.I.A.A. Swimming Championships. In an aquatics career that spanned several communities, two universities and the Canadian Red Cross Society, Don was responsible for thousands of Canadians learning how to swim and swim fast. He laid the Foundation for the "Gryphon" swimming tradition as Guelph joined the OQUAA in 1965.
