Mike O’Shea – Football (1989-1992)
Mike O’Shea made a name for himself as a star linebacker from 1989-1992. He still holds the Gryphons’ team record for career QB sacks with 19 and ranks 4th in total career tackles with 310. O’Shea earned OUAA All-Star honours in his last 2 seasons. He was named a First-Team OUAA All-Star, CIAU All-Canadian and OUAA Defensive Player of the Year in 1992, when his team won the Yates Cup. In addition, O’Shea was awarded Team MVP and the University of Guelph Male Athlete of the Year. He represented Guelph in the East-West Shrine Game in California. O’Shea was drafted in the first round of the 1993 CFL draft by the Edmonton Eskimos and was immediately traded to the Hamilton Tiger-Cats. The North Bay, Ontario native has played 14 seasons in the CFL, spending 10 seasons with the Toronto Argonauts and 4 with the Tiger-Cats. In 2006, he became the first Canadian and third player in CFL history to post 1,000 career tackles. He has won 3 CFL Grey Cup Championships with the Argonauts in 1996, 1997 & 2004.
Mike graduated from the University of Guelph with a Bachelor of Science degree in 1994.
