Doug Dodd, 1970-2006 - Builder

Doug Dodd's contribution as a builder in the sport of volleyball and as an administrator for Gryphon Athletics has spanned some five decades in the City of Guelph.
 
Doug worked for the University of Guelph Department of Athletics for a total of 36 years serving as the Head Men's Volleyball Coach from 1970-75 and then once again from 1980-2006. Under his leadership the
 
Gryphon program was consistently a competitive team and earned an OUA silver medal in 2003. Doug was awarded the OUA Coach of the Year honour a total of four times. During his career a number of his players were recognized on the provincial and national stage including a total of 22 players named OUA All-Stars, five CIS All-Canadians, one CIS Rookie of the Year and 17 Academic All-Canadians. Three of his players are members of the Gryphon Sports Hall of Fame.
 
Dedicated to the sport of volleyball, Doug was also involved in a variety of university and provincial committees for player and coaching development, serving as President of the CIAU Volleyball Coaches' Association and also spending several years as Chair of the OUA men's volleyball coaches. Doug remains a fixture in the volleyball community in the City of Guelph still to this day, serving as an Ontario Volleyball Association (OVA) referee at the provincial and CIS level as well as acting as a coaching mentor to the Guelph Junior Gryphons Volleyball Club.
 
On top of his volleyball coaching duties at UofG, Doug served as the Gryphon Men's Assistant Basketball Coach (1971-72, 75-76) and Head Basketball Coach (1976-77, 78-79). From 1970-2001 he worked in the Fitness and Recreation Department as the Coordinator of On-Campus Recreation Programs and then as the Alumni Relations and Marketing Coordinator for a few years.
