Lou Godry, a Gryphon linebacker from 1983-1986 is one of the all-time greats in University of Guelph football history and was a key member of the CIAU National Championship 1984 Gryphon team. For four years, Lou was a fixture on the field for the Gryphons. After joining the team in the 1983 season, he quickly established himself as one of the best lineman in school history. He was named an OUA First Team All-Star in all four of his seasons and was twice named a CIS First Team All-Canadian (1985, 1986). He also helped lead the Gryphons to a National Vanier Cup title in 1984. In his last season with the Gryphons he was named the OUA Lineman of the Year, CIAU Lineman of the Year, University of Guelph Male Athlete of the Year and was selected to play in the CIAU/NCAA East-West Shrine Bowl played in Palo Alto, California. Following his University career he was drafted by the Hamilton Tiger Cats of the Canadian Football League in 1987.
