The 2-time CIAU Cross Country champion led the Gryphons to 3 OQAA Track titles in '55, '56, '57 and 2 Cross-Country titles in '56 and '57. Al set school records over the 3 mile (15:58), 1 mile (4:40) and 880-yard (1:59.3) distances.
