Hall of Fame
A true pioneer in her field, Karen Lee was a driving force in Gryphon Athletics for 31 years. Coaching the women's basketball team from 1976-87, her teams garnered one gold, two silver and two bronze provincial medals. Her 1979-80 championship team was recognized in the 2010 Hall of Fame. She also coached several other varsity teams during her tenure. On the field hockey and indoor hockey front, her teams produced 9 bronze provincial medals. Overall, Lee's teams produced six Hall of Famers, ten All-Canadians and numerous OUA All-Stars. She finished her coaching career as a 3-time OUA Basketball and 2-time OUA Field Hockey Coach of the Year. Lee retired from coaching in 2004.
She also coordinated the Instructional programs from 1976-1981, supervised Dance, Martial Arts, Sports, Yoga and Pilates programs from 1994-2007 where she doubled the size of these programs. Her final stint before retiring was as Manager of On-campus Programs from 2001-2007. In 2007, Lee was recipient of the John T. Powell Award for exemplary effort and devotion in her contributions to the University of Guelph Athletics program.
