Jack “Goomer” Raithby (D) – Football (1947-1951)
Represented this evening by his wife Nancy Raithby. Jack “Goomer” Raithby, was hard driving fullback whose long stride belied his speed and power on the football field. Goomer, was known to be a game-breaker, and is remembered as one of the most prolific runners ever to wear the Gryphon Colours, instrumental on each of the three consecutive Dominion Championship winning teams in 1947, 1948 and 1949. A letterman very year from 1947 to 1951, Jack earned distinction as the Ted Wildman Trophy winner in his final year for exemplifying the traits of sportsmanship, leadership and gentlemanly conduct while maintaining a grade point average in the top 5 % of his class.
Jack graduated from the University of Guelph with a Bachelor of Science degree in Agriculture in 1951.
