The 1996-97 Men’s Hockey Team.

In 1996-1997, the Gryphon men’s hockey team captured the CIAU Championship title defeating the University of New Brunswick 4-3, at Maple Leaf Gardens in front of a crowd of 5,733 fans. Coached by Marlin Muylaert, the Gryphons went through the regular season setting a record with 21 victories and only 4 losses in league play. En route to the CIS title, the Gryphons captured the OUAA Championship title (Queen’s Cup) defeating York 3-0. Goaltender Matt Mullin and defenseman J.P. Davis were named First-Team OUAA All-Stars and CIAU All-Canadians. Mullin was also awarded the Senator Joseph A. Sullivan Trophy for Outstanding Player in the CIAU. Head coach Marlin Muylaert was named the OUAA East Division Coach of the Year.

Davis, Chris Emerton, Jeff Flanagan, Ryan Foster, Paul Galbraith, Mark Gowan, Jason Haelzle, Kevin Hastings, Colin Hindle, Barry Johnson, Chris Logue, David Milek, Bill Monkman, Matt Mullin, Jason Reesor, Paul Rosebush, Michael Selkirk, Tim Spitzig, Briane Thompson, Tim Thompson, Joe Van Volsen and Ryan Weis. Head Coach: Marlin Muylaert, Assistant Coaches: Paul Brydges and Mike Parson, Trainers: Lisa MacNeil and Josh O’Keefe, Manager: Rob Saunders, Statistician: Neil Srivastava and Team Doctor: Barry Martin.
