Inducted as a Builder - Friday, September 28, 2001

As Director from 1982 to 2000, Dave Copp was at the helm of Athletics at Guelph during a time of tremendous growth. Truly a people person, Dave's leadership saw the department flourish with a balanced program that put the students' needs at the forefront. Intramurals, Instruction, Recreation and Intercollegiate programs forged partnerships between the students, administration, alumni and community that are a model in Canadian University Athletics Programs.

David quarterbacked the Athletics Facility Expansion at the University of Guelph. These projects included renovations to the existing facility, adding six international squash courts, circuit and weight training rooms, a third multi use gymnasium (West Gym), men's and women's locker rooms, and administrative offices as well as new facilities, the Gold Pool, the Twin Pad Arena, and most recently the Gryphon Dome (indoor training and competition centre with a 200 meter 4 lane track and a multi purpose artificial turf playing surface).

David helped establish the Gryphon Club Hall of Fame in 1983. During his 18 year tenure, he served the University of Guelph, the OUA and the CIAU with distinction. On the occasion of his retirement in 2000, the University recognized his achievements with the establishment of a courtyard in front of the Athletics Centre.
