TORONTO, Ont. - For the second time during the 2022-23 season, a Guelph Gryphon student-athlete has been named a "U SPORTS Athlete of the Week."
Mark Bujnowski, a fifth-year standout on the Gryphons men's track and field team, has been named
U SPORTS Track & Field Athlete of the Week for the period covering Jan. 23 - 29, 2023. Bujnowski was one of 10 student-athletes from across the country to be named U SPORTS Athlete of the Week in their respective sports. He becomes the second Gryphon to garner the national honour this season, following Gryphons women's wrestler, Kelyn Young, who did so back on January 18, 2023.

Mark Bujnowski, a 24-year-old native of Mount Brydges, Ontario, is currently pursuing a Masters in agriculture while competing in his fifth and final year of eligibility at the University of Guelph.

This past weekend at the Penn State National Invite,
Mark Bujnowski once again displayed his dominance in the men's shot put, setting a new U SPORTS record with a throw of 19.47m. Bujnowski's throw was 2.14m longer than the next closest NCAA competitor.
Bujnowski continues his 2022-23 season solidifying his collegiate track & field career as one of the most dominant ever. The University of Guelph's reigning
Male Athlete of the Year is a three-time U SPORTS men's shot put champion, and has established himself as the favourite this season, where he will look to capture his fourth consecutive title. Bujnowski is also a threat in the weight throw where he took home his second national gold medal in 2021-22, earning him both U SPORTS Field Performer of the Year and U SPORTS Athlete of the Meet. Throughout his Gryphon career Bujnowski has also been named the U SPORTS Rookie of the Year (2017-18), the 2019-20 U SPORTS T&F Athlete of the Year, and the 2021-22 OUA Championship MVP.
