Gryphons Track & Field and Cross Country Programs Finalize Coaching Staff for 2025-26 Season

GUELPH, Ont. – The Guelph Gryphons track and field and cross country programs have finalized their coaching staff ahead of the 2025-26 season. Head coach Jason Kerr, who led the Gryphon men to an OUA track & field title a season ago and who has been named U SPORTS Coach of the Year on seven occasions during his time at the University of Guelph, now enters his 13th season of coaching with the Gryphons and welcomes back some familiar names to the program as part of his 2025-26 coaching staff.
 
Paul Galas | Associate Head Coach – Track & Field

Paul Galas has been named associate head coach for the Gryphons track & field program, with Galas set to enter his 7th season as a member of the Gryphons track and field coaching staff after serving as an assistant coach with the program for the previous six seasons. During the 2024-25 campaign, Galas was named an OUA major award winner as the conference's Male Assistant Coach of the Year. "It has been amazing to watch him grow over the years into the coach he is today. His ability to connect with athletes, his technical expertise, and his commitment to the program have been instrumental in our success. This new role reflects the impact he's already had — and the confidence we have in where he will help us go next." In this new position as associate head coach, Galas will continue to lead in the jumps and combined events while expanding his role in overall program planning, athlete support, staff development as well as overseeing and assisting in day-to-day operations of the team.

"It has always been a privilege to be part of this program, and I am honoured to step into this leadership role," says Galas, who prior to joining the Gryphons, was a jumper at Indiana University where he was a Big Ten Conference medalist and member of the 2017 Big Ten Conference Team Champions. "The athletes, coaches, and staff here at Guelph motivate me every day, and I look forward to continuing to help them pursue their goals at the highest level both on and off the track." Since joining the program, Galas has played a key role in the development of numerous high performing student-athletes and has helped lead the Gryphons to eight USPORTS national titles (four men's, four women's) and seven OUA conference titles (four men's, three women's). Galas has coached multiple USPORTS national champions and medalists, as well as a long list of conference champions and podium finishers. Under his guidance athletes have set multiple school records in the men's & women's long jump, men's triple jump, pentathlon, and assisted in both the men's & women's pole vault records. Galas was awarded the 2024 Petro Canada Coaching Excellence Award for his work with Paralympic Silver Medalist, Jesse Zesseu.
 
Kyle Boorsma | Head Coach – Cross Country, Assistant Coach (Endurance) – Track & Field

Gryphon Hall of Famer, Kyle Boorsma, has been named head coach of the Guelph Gryphons cross country program, as well as an assistant coach (endurance) with the U of G track and field program. Kyle Boorsma, head coach Gryphons cross countryKyle returns to the Gryphons with an outstanding athletic legacy and a proven track record of leadership, mentorship, and team-building excellence. As a 10-time All-Canadian, three-time University of Guelph Male Athlete of the Year (2008-09, 2009-10 & 2010-11), and 13-time national champion, Kyle stands as one of the most accomplished athletes in U SPORTS history. As a student-athlete at U of G, Boorsma led the Gryphons to an extraordinary run of five consecutive national team titles in cross country from 2006 to 2010. In his previous coaching tenure with Gryphons track and field and cross country programs from 2015 to 2020, Kyle demonstrated exceptional leadership during a challenging period for the team. His steady guidance and resilience kept the squad focused and united, earning him the OUA Men's Cross Country Coach of the Year award in 2019. Kyle's strengths extend well beyond his accomplishments as an athlete. He brings a unique blend of competitive experience, academic training, and multidisciplinary expertise—particularly in physiology and performance nutrition. His master's-level education as an exercise physiologist reinforces his holistic, student-centered coaching philosophy. In addition, his experience as both an athlete and coach in elite cycling and triathlon adds valuable perspective to his approach to endurance sport development. As head coach of the Gryphons cross country program, Kyle will be supported by returning assistant coach, Chris Moulton, as well as a new addition in Dominika Jamnicky. Jamnicky, a former Gryphon cross country standout and elite international triathlete, brings a wealth of experience both as a high-performance athlete and a coach. With years of coaching experience in triathlon and a deep understanding of the student-athlete journey, she adds valuable perspective and leadership to the Gryphons cross country program.
