Kyle Boorsma was named head coach of the Gryphons cross country program in July of 2025.
Kyle, a member of the Gryphons Hall of Fame, returns to the Gryphons with an outstanding athletic legacy and a proven track record of leadership, mentorship, and team-building excellence. As a 10-time All-Canadian, three-time University of Guelph Male Athlete of the Year (2008-09, 2009-10 & 2010-11), and 13-time national champion, Kyle stands as one of the most accomplished athletes in U SPORTS history. As a student-athlete at U of G, Boorsma led the Gryphons to an extraordinary run of five consecutive national team titles in cross country from 2006 to 2010. In his previous coaching tenure with Gryphons track and field and cross country programs from 2015 to 2020, Kyle demonstrated exceptional leadership during a challenging period for the team. His steady guidance and resilience kept the squad focused and united, earning him the OUA Men's Cross Country Coach of the Year award in 2019. Kyle's strengths extend well beyond his accomplishments as an athlete. He brings a unique blend of competitive experience, academic training, and multidisciplinary expertise—particularly in physiology and performance nutrition. His master's-level education as an exercise physiologist reinforces his holistic, student-centered coaching philosophy. In addition, his experience as both an athlete and coach in elite cycling and triathlon adds valuable perspective to his approach to endurance sport development.Â
