SWIM RECAP: Gryphon Women Finish 5th, Men 8th, at 2026 OUA Swimming Championships

TORONTO, Ont. – The Gryphons men's and women's swimming teams made their way to the University of Toronto's Varsity Pool (Feb. 19-21) for the 2026 OUA Swimming Championships. The Gryphons reached the podium on seven occasions, with the Gryphon women finishing the three-day conference championship meet in 5th-place in the final team standings, while the U of G men's swim team finished in 8th. The University of Toronto claimed both the men's and women's team titles.

The top result of the weekend for the Gryphons came on Day 2 of the 2026 OUA Swimming Championships, where standout fifth-year swimmer, Elizabeth Greaves (Perth, ON), took home silver in the women's 400m freestyle. It was part of an impressive weekend for Greaves, with the marketing management major also contributing to a pair of bronze medals in the relays (women's 4x100 medley relay & 4x200 freestyle). Liz Greaves also bettered her own school record in the women's 200m freestyle on Day 1, where she narrowly missed out on an OUA podium spot finishing 4th in the 'A' final. Gryphons standout fourth-year swimmer, Alexandra Bertrim (Lively, ON), was the first University of Guelph representation on the OUA podium in 2026, with the human kinetics major swimming to an OUA bronze in the women's 100m freestyle. On the final day of competition, the Gryphons made one last trip to the podium with the quartet of Ashley Hodge, Hannah Nordquist, Ali Bertrim and Izzy Robert earning bronze in the women's 4x50m medley relay. In the para events, sport and event management major Ian Steadman (Campbellville, ON) earned a pair of bronze medals in the 100m backstroke and 100m breaststroke.

Up next for the Gryphons varsity swim team is the 2026 U SPORTS Swimming Championships March 12-14 at the Markham Pan Am Centre, where the Gryphons will have five swimmers representing U of G at nationals (Liz Greaves, Ali Bertrim, Alanna Casasanta, Lauren Anthony and Ashley Hodge).
