MARKHAM, Ont. – A total of 31 student-athletes from the Gryphons varsity swimming program represented the University of Guelph this past weekend (Feb. 7-9) at the 2025 OUA Swimming Championships at the Markham Pan Am Centre. The Gryphons reached the OUA podium on six separate occasions, with the Gryphons women's swim team finishing 4th in the final team standings, while the U of G men's swim team placed 9th.

The University of Toronto Varsity Blues swept the OUA titles on both the men's and women's sides for a 10th consecutive season. The Gryphons got off to a fast start on Day 1 on Friday, with fourth-year swimmer
Elizabeth Greaves (Perth, ON) winning an OUA bronze medal in the women's 200m freestyle. The marketing management major set a new school record in the women's 200m free, previously held by Gryphons head coach
Chantique Carey-Payne, posting a time of 2:01.79.
Alexandra Bertrim (Lively, ON) also claimed OUA bronze on Friday, with her performance in the women's 100m butterfly. Second-year standout
Alanna Casasanta (Brantford, ON) continued her impressive sophomore season, accounting for the Gryphons third and final individual medal, with Casasanta claiming OUA bronze in the women's 200m backstroke with a time of 2:14.86.
Both Greaves and Bertrim would contribute to additional OUA bronze medals as part of Gryphon relays, with Guelph claiming OUA silver in the women's 4x100m medley relay (

Holly Nickerson). On the final day, the Gryphons added another bronze in the women's 4x50m medley relay thanks to the team of

Hannah Nordquist, Ali Bertrim and
Ashley Hodge. The Gryphons came close on several other occasions to adding to their OUA medal haul, with Casasanta finishing 4th in the women's 50m backstroke, and Ali Bertrim adding a 4th in women's 400m freestyle. A total of five Gryphon student-athletes have booked their spot at nationals, with the 2025 U SPORTS Swimming Championships set to take place March 6-8 at the University of Toronto.
