MONTREAL, Que. – The Guelph Gryphons varsity swim program had seven different student-athletes (5 women, 2 men) competing in Montreal this weekend, with McGill University serving as host of the 2024 U SPORTS Swimming Championships.

The best collegiate swimmers from across the country congregated at the Pointe Claire Aquatic Centre for the three-day national championship event (March 7-9).
On the women's side, the University of Guelph was represented by
Alexandra Bertrim,
Alanna Casasanta,
Liz Greaves,
Lauren Anthony and
Ashley Hodge, while on the men's side the Gryphons had two swimmers competing at nationals in
Ethan Rotsaert-Smith and
Jacob Stojanovic. The Gryphons finished 15th (out of 22 schools) in the final team standings on the women's side (while the U of G men's team did not officially qualify for final team standings with two swimmers competing). The University of Toronto Varsity Blues were crowned national champions on both the men's and women's sides, marking the first time since 2015-16 in which the University of Toronto Varsity Blues men's and women's swimming teams swept the national banners.

Toronto's women claim their third consecutive and 18th national title in program history. It marks the Blues men's first U SPORTS title since 2015-16 and 20th national banner since first hoisting the Nelson C Hart Trophy in 1965-66.
While the Gryphons did not reach the national podium on the weekend, the team received several strong performances, with second-year standout
Alexandra Bertrim leading the way. The human kinetics major from Lively, Ontario recorded the Gryphons highest finish of the U SPORTS Championships, with Bertrim finishing 11th in the country in the women's 50m butterfly after placing 3rd in the 'B' finals on Day 2. It marks the second consecutive year in which Bertrim has qualified for 'B' final at a nationals, after doing so as a freshman a year ago at the U SPORTS Championships in Victoria.
Alanna Casasanta, a first-year Gryphon swimmer from Brantford, Ontario, also impressed for the Gryphons, with the accounting major placing 15th after qualifying for a 'B' final in the women's 200m backstroke.
