U SPORTS Top 10, Presented by Shoeless Joe's (Oct. 6, 2026): Six Gryphon Teams Highlighted in Latest Rankings; Men's & Women's Rugby at No. 1 & Football Debuts at No. 10

TORONTO, Ont. – On Tuesday, October 6, 2026, the U SPORTS office released its latest national rankings for the 2026-27 season. Six Guelph Gryphons varsity teams are represented in the latest U SPORTS National Top 10 Rankings, presented by Shoeless Joe's Sports Grill. Gryphons women's rugby team returns to the No. 1 spot, the undefeated Gryphons women's soccer team remains No. 5 in the national rankings. Men's cross country holds at No. 7 and women's cross country stays at No. 9. Football makes their first appearance in the U SPORTS Top 10 this season at No. 10. Men's Rugby: No. 1

The Gryphons men's rugby team continues their run as the No. 1-ranked team in the latest National Top 10 Coaches' Choice rankings. The reigning national champions picked up a 62-10 road win over the Trent Exalibur on Saturday (Oct. 3). The Gryphons are now 4-0 on the season and leading the OUA Men's Rugby ladder. Next up for the Gryphs, a home matchup on Friday night (Oct. 9) when they host the Laurier Golden Hawks.
 
Women's Rugby: No. 1
 
The Gryphons women's rugby team returns to the No. 1 spot in the latest U SPORTS Top 10. The Gryphons knocked off the previously unbeaten and No. 5-ranked Western Mustangs 47-17 on Saturday (Oct. 3) with Addy Holmes led the charge, scoring three tries in the victory. The Gryphons improve to 5-0 on the season and lead the OUA standings with one regular season game left to play. Next up for the Gryphs, a road matchup in Toronto against the York Lions on Friday night (Oct. 9) in their final regular season game of 2026.
 
Women's Soccer: No. 5
 
The Gryphons women's soccer team continues their stay in the Top 5 of the latest national rankings at No. 5. Ella Cahill's winner in the 67th minute proved to be the difference on the road in their 1-0 win over York on Friday night (Oct. 2). The Gryphons returned home on Sunday (Oct. 4) and kept another clean sheet in their 2-0 victory over Waterloo with goals from Isabella Trepanier and Olivia Rizakos. The Gryphs have extended longest undefeated stretch in program history to nine matches as they remain undefeated with a 9-0-0 record as the leaders in the OUA West division. The Gryphons return to the pitch on Friday night (Oct. 9) when they host the McMaster Marauders.
 
Cross Country: Men – No. 7 | Women – No. 9
 
The Gryphons cross country teams maintain their rankings in this week's national rankings with the men's team at No. 7 and women's team at No. 9. The Gryphons are idle this week with their next meet on Friday, Oct. 16 in Hamilton for the Marauder BayFront Open.
 
Football: No. 10
 
The Gryphons football team for the first time in the 2026 season are ranked in the U SPORTS Top 10, cracking the latest rankings at No. 10. The Gryphons on Saturday (Oct. 3) won their 4th straight game, shutting out the Toronto Varsity Blues 46-0 as Willem Arseneau and Ethan Garwe each found the end zone twice. The Gryphs are now on their bye week with a 4-2 record as they'll next be in action on Saturday, Oct. 17 when they pay a visit to Kingston to take on the reigning Yates Cup Champions, Queen's Gaels.
