GUELPH, Ont. – Throughout the 2026-27 season, the University of Guelph Department of Athletics will be highlighting various members from our Gryphon varsity programs as part of our 'Gryph's Locker Athletes of the Week, presented by POWERADE' series. Rachel McConvery (Women's Lacrosse) and
Jack Lehto (Men's Cross Country) have been named 'Gryphon Athlete of the Week' for the period covering September 21 to 27, 2026.
Rachel McConvey (Women's Lacrosse)
A monster day from Gryphons women's lacrosse fifth-year midfielder
Rachel McConvey sees her earn this week's 'Gryphon Athlete of the Week' nod. McConvey, the criminal justice and public policy major from Toronto, had a huge day, scoring 11 goals on Sunday (Sept. 27) in her team's win over McMaster and Western from U of G's Varsity Field. McConvey in her first game of the day against the Marauders, scored 6 times as her team cruised to a 19-4 win. Later in the day against the Mustangs, McConvey scored 5 times and added an assist as her side got a late goal from
Amelia Craftchick to defeat Western 12-11 to sweep the home doubleheader. The midfielder on the season is the team leader with 18 goals and is tied for the team lead with 23 points. McConvey and the rest of the Gryphons women's lacrosse team will head down Highway 7 to Laurier for the second time this season for a doubleheader when they take on Laurier and Brock on Saturday (Oct. 3) to close out the regular season.
Jack Lehto (Men's Cross Country)
Jack Lehto is this week's 'Gryphon Athlete of the Week' after starting the 2026 OUA Cross Country season with an individual win at the Vigars & Salter Western Invitational in London on Saturday (Sept. 26). The fifth-year team captain and two-time U SPORTS All-Canadian and two-time OUA bronze medalist was the first to cross the finish line in the men's 8km course with a time of 24:46, finishing :10 seconds ahead of the field and was just :16 seconds off the meet record. The men and women's cross country teams had a great showing in London with both teams finishing in third-place in the team standings. Lehto, a mechanical engineering major from Burlington, represented Canada in the spring of 2026 at the FISU Cross Country Championships in Italy. Lehto and the rest of the Gryphon cross country team will return to action Oct. 17 in Hamilton for the Marauder Lakefront Invitational.
