TORONTO, Ont. – On Tuesday, September 29, 2026, the U SPORTS office released its latest national rankings for the 2026-27 season. Four Guelph Gryphons varsity teams are represented in the latest U SPORTS National Top 10 Rankings, presented by Shoeless Joe's Sports Grill. Gryphons women's rugby team drops one spot to No. 2 following their win over the weekend. Women's soccer cracks the Top 5 at No. 5 in the latest rankings. Men's Rugby: No. 1
The Gryphons men's rugby team continues as the No. 1-ranked team in the latest National Top 10 Coaches' Choice rankings. The reigning national champions shutout the Brock Badgers 76-0 at home on Friday night (Sept. 25) to improve to a perfect 3-0 on the regular season. Second-year flanker
Jackson Priestman (Kemptville, ON) led the way with three tries in the win. The Gryphons are back in action on Saturday night (Oct. 3) when they take on the Trent Excalibur in Peterborough.
Women's Rugby: No. 2
The Gryphons women's rugby team drops to the No. 2 in the latest national rankings after road win to stay undefeated. The Gryphons on Saturday night (Sept. 26) defeated the Varsity Blues 180-0 with Ariana Marsala and
Madison Minnis scoring four tries each. The Gryphons (4-0) are set for another showdown at the top of the OUA ladder when they take on No. 5-ranked Western Mustangs (4-0) on Saturday (Oct. 3) in the final regular season match from Varsity Field in 2026.
Women's Soccer: No. 5
The Gryphons women's soccer team cracks the Top 5 of the latest U SPORTS Top 10 at No. 5 after a pair of wins this weekend to maintain their undefeated record of 7-0-0.
Brooklyn McLaughlin's goal in the 69th minute was enough for her side to come through with the 1-0 road win at McMaster on Friday night (Sept. 25). Three goals on Sunday afternoon (Sept. 27) for the Gryphons saw them maintain top spot in the OUA West division in their 3-1 win over Brock. The Gryphons head to Toronto on Friday night (Oct. 2) to take on the York Lions in a battle of the top two teams in the OUA West division before they return home on Sunday afternoon (Oct. 4) to take on the Waterloo Warriors.
Cross Country: Men – No. 7 | Women – No. 9
The men's cross country team drops two spots to No. 7 while the women's team rises one spot to No. 9 in the latest national rankings. Both team on Saturday (Sept. 26) earned a third-place finish at the Vigars & Salters Western Invitational in their first meet of the season.
Jack Lehto led the way on the men's side, picking up the individual win, finishing the men's 8km course in 24:46.
Aiden Clodd (17th) and
Owen Lloyd (20th) both crossed the line with a top 20 finish in their first race as a Gryphon. Rookie
Mikala Ryan led the women with a 4th place finish, crossing with a time of 29:08.
Alexandra McDougall (6th) and
Michelle Gray (10th) earned a top 10 finish at the meet crossing the line just before the half hour mark. The Gryphons will next race in the Marauder Lakefront Invitational in Hamilton on Saturday, Oct. 17.
