FENCING RECAP: Gryphons Finish 12th at 2025 OUA Men's Fencing Championships

KINGSTON, Ont. – This past weekend (March 1-2, 2025) the University of Guelph men's fencing team made trip north to Kingston as they competed in the 2025 OUA Men's Fencing Championships, hosted by the RMC Paladins. The Gryphons finished the two-day provincial tournament in 12th-place.
 
The Gryphons men's performance was highlighted by Campbell Merer in the individual epee event. Merer, a third-year software engineering major at the University of Guelph, won four of his six matches in pool play with 26 touches scored to 24 touches received to enter the knockout round as the 16th-seed. Maher would see his day end in the round of 32 as he fell to the 17-seeded McMaster's Mohab Mefreh 15-10 to finish 20th in the induvidual epee.
 
At the conclusion of the two-day championship tournament, the Toronto Varsity Blues captured their fifth consecutive OUA men's fencing championship in dominant fashion which saw them finish with a total of 358 points.
