GUELPH, Ont.Marshall McCray (offence), Deemetrius Masuka (defence) and Joseph Younes (special teams) have been named Gryphon Football 'Players of the Game' following the team's Week 7 loss to the Queen's Gaels on Saturday, October 4.

Marshall McCray (Offence)

Marshall McCray earns this week's 'Offensive Player of the Game' honours following his fantastic day leading his team in the ground attack. McCray, a third-year, dual-threat quarterback, finished the afternoon against Queen's rushing for 57 yards on 11 carries for 2 touchdowns while playing a pivotal role for his team on short yardage situations, consistently getting past the sticks and continually keeping the drives going for the team. The Niagara Falls native scored both Gryphon touchdowns on the day as he made a nice read to scoot around his blockers and run it into the end zone from 6 yards out for his first of the day. McCray's second touchdown run was breathtaking which gave the Gryphons the lead in the 4th quarter as he was able leap over the line and into the end zone for a major on a huge 3rd and Goal situation. The human kinetics major on the season has rushed for 292 yards and has scored 8 touchdowns (T-3rd in OUA) to go along with his 138 passing yards and 2 touchdown passes.

Deemetrius Masuka (Defence)

For the second time in three weeks, Deemetrius Masuka has been named 'Defensive Player of the Game.' The human health and nutritional sciences major has made an impact on the Gryphon defence since making his debut against the Gee-Gees. Masuka finished the game against Queen's with 4.0 total tackles, 3 of them solo, to go along with an interception. The hybrid player has seen time at linebacker as well as defensive back this season, and was able to come up with an outstanding interception to account for one of two Gryphon turnovers on the afternoon. The Hamilton native in his four games played this season has 16.0 total tackles, 13 solo tackles with a sack and interception.

Joseph Younes (Special Teams)

This week's 'Special Teams Player of the Game' is long snapper Joseph Younes. Younes, studying his masters in human health and nutritional sciences, was on point all afternoon, making perfect snaps in the kicking and punting game. The Guelph native also provided excellent support with punt and field goal coverage throughout the game. Younes also recorded a solo tackle on the field goal coverage team. This season, he has recorded 2.5 tackles while appearing in all 7 of his team's games.
