FB RECAP: Gianni Green's Four Interception Game Leads Gryphons in 55-28 Road Win

OTTAWA, Ont. – The Guelph Gryphons football team picked up their second win of the season on Saturday afternoon (Sept. 27, 2025) from TAAG Park in Ottawa, defeating the Carleton Ravens, 55-28, to improve to 2-4. The Gryphons were led by fourth-year defensive back Gianni Green who had four interceptions in the game, including returning one 61-yards back for the game's opening touchdown. Green's 4 interceptions ties and OUA and U SPORTS record for the most interceptions by a player in a single game, with just three other players having accomplished the feat (most recently, McMaster's Joey Cupido back in 2011). The Gryphons move to 2-4 on the season with the win while the Ravens fall to 2-3.

The Gryphons got off to a fast start in their final regular season road game as Gianni Green picked off Tristan Lefebvre and returned it back 61-yards for a pick six to give his side an early 7-0 lead. For the Mississauga native, it was his second career interception return for a touchdown after also taking one back against the Ravens last season when he returned one 74-yards for a touchdown. The arts major would finish off the game with a career-high four interceptions in a game with Green recording two picks in each half.

The Gryphon offence would get into rhythm scoring touchdowns on back-to-back possessions with Marshall McCray running one in from 3-yards out and Tristan Aboud finding Willem Arseneau on a deep pass for a 50-yard touchdown connection to give the Gryphs a 21-7 lead. The Ravens would answer back in the 2nd quarter thanks to their defence, with the Carleton pass rush getting to Aboud in the pocket to force a fumble. Carleton would capitalize off the turnover on the following play with a Dante Spadaccini 21-yard touchdown run to make it a 21-14 game.

After the Ravens scored a touchdown to tie the game, the Gryphons offence would come up with the biggest play of the game with 2:20 remaining in the 2nd quarter. Gianni Green celebrates an INT at CarletonGuelph opened the bag of tricks from the Carleton 32-yard line as Tristan Aboud pitched it to Isaiah Smith who pitched it to Willem Arseneau on the end around as the Calgary native returned the favour and found his quarterback wide open Aboud for a touchdown to give Guelph the lead. The Gryphons would cap off an outstanding half with Marshall McCray finding Isaiah Smith open in the end zone to make it a 35-21 lead at the break.

The Gryphons would ride that momentum into the 3rd quarter, scoring two more touchdowns, with Marshall McCray picking up his second rushing touchdown of the game and Tristan Aboud finding Willem Arseneau for the second time on the afternoon for a 40-yard touchdown to extend the lead to 49-21. Gryphons third-year quarterback Marshall McCray would close out the win for his team, with a 55-yard touchdown pass to Monroe Corniffe to cap Guelph's 55-28 road win.

The Guelph defence was outstanding in the victory forcing five takeaways, sacking the quarterback four times while holding the Ravens to just seven second half points and limiting them to 326 total yards in the game. The offence finished the day with 604 total yards with 326 of it coming on the ground. Third-year receiver Willem Arseneau finished with 3 receptions for 113 yards for two touchdowns and a passing touchdown.
