T&F RECAP: Gryphons Men & Women Sweep National Titles at 2024 U SPORTS Track & Field Championships

WINNIPEG, Man. – The Guelph Gryphons have extended their incredible national championship winning streak thanks to yet another sensational showing at the U SPORTS Track and Field Championships.
 
From Thursday, March 7 to Saturday, March 9, the University of Manitoba served as hosts of the 2024 U SPORTS Track and Field Championships at Jim Daly Fieldhouse in Winnipeg. The Gryphons swept the men's and women's team titles for a remarkable sixth consecutive season.
 
For the Gryphon men, it marked the 7th consecutive U SPORTS title, and the 10th national title in program history. With that result, the Gryphons men's track and field program move past the Windsor Lancers (9) for the most national titles won by a men's track and field program in Canadian university athletics. Max Davies reacts after setting a U SPORTS record in the men's 1000m at the 2024 U SPORTS T&F ChampionshipsThe Gryphon men finished the three-day national championship event with 90.5 points (*unofficial at this point*), with the host-Manitoba Bisons the next closest school in the final team standings at 82 points. Leading the way for the Gryphon men was endurance runner, Max Davies, who set a pair of U SPORTS records while winning the men's 1000m and 1500m. Davies was named U SPORTS Athlete of the Meet. Gryphons head coach, Jason Kerr, was named U SPORTS Coach of the Year on both the men's and women's sides.
 
For the Gryphon women, the win marked a 6th consecutive U SPORTS title, and the 8th national title in program history. The U of G women finished the 2024 U SPORTS Track and Field Championships with 115 points (*unofficial at this point*) to finish 13-points ahead of their OUA rivals from London in the Western Mustangs, who finished with 102 points.
 
In total, the Gryphons men and women combined to take make 19 trips to the U SPORTS podium (9 gold, 5 silver, 5 bronze).
