Box Score Waterloo, ON - Sunday afternoon (Sept. 6) the Gryphons Men's Soccer team improved to 3-1-1 on the season with a convincing 4-0 road win over the Waterloo Warriors (1-3-0).
The Warriors came into the match fresh off of a 4-0 win of their own over Laurier. However, the home team would find themselves down 1-0 in the 27th minute after Guelph's 4th year midfielder Ethan Danielli (Guelph, ON) would fire a rocket from 30-yards out to put the Gryphons in front. For Danielli, it marked his second goal of the season after he also opened the scoring for the Gryphons in their previous match against Western. The Gryphons lead would grow to 2-0 in the 36th minute when rookie striker Jace Kotsopoulos (Burlington, ON) drove a hard, low shot into the corner for his second goal in as many games.
Just like they had done four days earlier, the Gryphons had earned a 2-0 lead heading into the half. They let that two-goal lead slip away against Western, but on Sunday agains the Warriors the Gryphons were determined to finish the job. The Gryphons would add a pair of second half goals to officially put the game out of reach. Both goals came from rookies as Youssef Zaghoul (Oakville, ON) and Chris Jacovou (Richmond Hill, ON) scored just three minutes apart in the 75th and 78th minute respectively.
The Gryphons have now play host to Brock (1-3-0) on Saturday at the Gryphon Soccer Complex. Kickoff is set for 3:15pm following the Women's match.
