Guelph, Ont. – The Guelph Gryphons men's soccer team defeated the Western Mustangs with a final score of 3-2 at the Gryphon Soccer Complex, moving Guelph to 8-1-4.
Jamie Wilcock scored two goals for the Gryphons, and led the team with four shots on goal in total.
Timothy Flynn and
Jared Agyemang had two shots on goal each and helped Guelph come out with a total of 12 shots on goal.
It was
Zachary Rushe who scored Guelph's final goal of the game in added time to make it 3-2 against the Western Mustangs.
The Gryphons came out strong with two good plays putting them down in Western's half early, but it would be the Mustang player Christian Douglas (Oakville, Ont.) who would make it 1-0 in the first minute for Western. Guelph played a physical game, but was not able to use their speed against the evenly matched Western Mustangs.
The Gryphons started the second half off with a goal by Jamie Wilcock in the 50
th minute of play. A red card on Western player Christian Douglas after an injury sustained by a Guelph player in the 55
th minute would put the Mustangs down a man, giving the Gryphons the advantage. Wilcock's second goal came in the 70
th minute after beating the defenders inside the box. Despite being a player down, the Mustangs rallied in the 88
th minute of play with Jovan Ivanovich (London, Ont.) scoring a goal. Guelph would pull ahead after a last minute goal by Zach Rushe, which would make it a final score of 3-2.
