ST. CATHARINES, Ont. - The Guelph Gryphons men's soccer team took a big step towards securing a playoff spot thanks to a dramatic, 1-0, road win against the Brock Badgers on Friday night (Oct. 16) in St. Catharines. With the game tied 0-0 late, the Gryphons were able to find the breakthrough in stoppage time when fourth-year centre back
Peter Bandula (Georgetown, ON) was able to head home off of a corner to secure three important points for the Gryphons in the 1-0 road win. Gryphons second-year goalkeeper
Liam Glas (Toronto, ON) earned the clean sheet, including a sensational double-save in the 63rd minute to keep the match scoreless. With the win on Friday night, the Gryphons improve to 4-4-3 (wins-losses-draws) and are now sitting on 15 points on the season. The Brock Badgers meanwhile wrap up their 12-game regular season schedule with a record of 5-7-0, and are also sitting on 15 points for the season.
The Gryphons will now return home on Sunday afternoon (Oct. 18) for the final game of their regular season schedule as they host the Laurier Golden Hawks (4-5-2) in a crucial regular season finale, with both Guelph and Laurier vying for one of the final playoff spots in the
tightly-contested OUA West division standings. A win or a draw on Sunday afternoon for Guelph would give the Gryphons a spot in the 2026 OUA playoffs, with the top six teams in the OUA West advancing to the postseason. Match time on Sunday afternoon between Guelph and Laurier is set for 3:15pm at the University of Guelph's Gryphon Soccer Complex.
