The Guelph Gryphon football team was defeated 54-11 on Saturday afternoon by the No. 5 Ottawa Gee-Gees on the road at Frank Clair Stadium in Ottawa. 

 

With the win, the Gee-Gees secured first place overall in the OUA regular season standings. 
 

With the loss, the Gryphons finish the regular season with a 4-4 record and in fifth place in the final standings.  The Laurier Golden Hawks defeated the Windsor Lancers today to earn fourth place in the standings and will host the Gryphons at University Stadium next Saturday (Oct. 30.) at 1:00 p.m. 
 

The Gryphons had no answer for the potent Gee Gees offence which amassed 633 yards in total offence on the day, compared to Guelph's 350. 

 

Guelph earned their first points on a 24-yd field goal by Matt Santos (Sault Ste. Marie, Ont.) in the first quarter. The Gryphons wouldn't score again until the six minute mark of the fourth quarter. Guelph earned their first touchdown of the game on an 81-yard pass from second-year quarterback Chris Rossetti (Mississauga, Ont.), to fourth-year receiver Jedd Gardner (Niagara Falls, Ont.) Guelph would then convert for two extra points.

 

For Guelph, Chris Rossetti (Mississauga, Ont.) completed 13 of 27 passes for 227 yards. Gardner led the receivers with four catches on 114 yards and one touchdown. 

 

The Gryphons will now face the Laurier Golden Hawks in the first round of the OUA playoffs next Saturday at Laurier at 1:00 p.m.  Tickets for the quarter-final will be available through the Golden Hawk ticket system at http://tickets.laurierathletics.com
