Trey Thompson (special teams) have been named Gryphon Football 'Players of the Game' following the team's Week 5 47-22 victory over the Waterloo Warriors on Saturday, September 26.
Tristan Aboud (Offence)
Tristan Aboud for the second time this season has been named 'Offensive Player of the Game'. Aboud, the fourth-year quarterback took full advantage of a clean pocket throughout the afternoon, completing 25 of his 35 passes for 377 yards and 2 touchdown passes while finding 8 different receivers in the win. Aboud also used his legs, rushing for 40 yards on 7 carries. The management economics and finance major from Montreal on the season has thrown for 1,411 yards (5th in OUA), a completion percentage of 61% to go along with his 11 touchdowns (3rd in OUA) and 2 interceptions.
Tumi Adeniyi (Defence)
Tumi Adeniyi is this week's 'Defensive Player of the Game' after playing a major in the interior of the Gryphon defence in the team's win over the Warriors. Adeniyi, the studio art major from Kitchener led the team with 4.5 tackles and had a sack in the victory. The defensive lineman played a major role in the team's goal-line stand in the first quarter, stopping three straight runs from the Warriors from the 1-yard line to force the turnover on downs. Adeniyi in his five games played this season has 13.5 total tackles and a sack.
Trey Thompson (Special Teams)
For the second time this season,
Trey Thompson has been named 'Special Teams Player of the Game'. Thompson, the arts major from Kingston had an outstanding game in the kicking game, making all five of his extra point attempts and was perfect making three field goals including makes from 46 and a career-best 50-yards. The second-year kicker and punter wasn't called on much to punt in the win, punting the ball twice for an average of 44.5 yards with a one of the punts landing inside the 20. Thompson on the season has made 5 of his 6 field goals and has made all 22 of his extra point attempts. On the punting side, Thompson is averaging 40.7 yards per punt on 25 punts and has pinned his opponents inside their own 20, 9 times.
