GUELPH, Ont. – Caleb Sargeant (offence), Kyle Simon-Guerin (defence) and Massimo Ferrone-Byrd (special teams) have been named Gryphon Football 'Players of the Game' following the team's Week 4 31-28 victory over the Ottawa Gee-Gees on Saturday, September 19.

Caleb Sargeant (Offence) Caleb Sargeant (Kitchener, ON) is this week's 'Offensive Player of the Game', continuing his explosive play on the ground for the Gryphons. The fourth-year justice and legal studies major led the team with 12 carries and ran for 105 yards, averaging 8.8 yards per carry as part of a rushing attack that put up 229 yards on the ground in the win against Ottawa. Sargeant on the season has been one of the top running backs in the conference, rushing for 360 yards (3rd in OUA) on 39 carries, averaging 9.2 yards per carry and finding the end zone twice.

Kyle Simon-Guerin (Defence) The 'Defensive Player of the Game' is fourth-year defensive back Kyle Simon-Guerin after making the defining play on defence to help seal the win on Saturday against the Gee-Gees. Simon-Guerin, the sociology major from Brampton had three total tackles against the Gee-Gees and came through with the game's only turnover. With the Gee-Gees driving and at the Guelph 23-yard line, Simon-Guerin covered lots of ground in coverage to make the game sealing interception with 39 seconds left in the game, wrestling the ball away from the Ottawa receiver just shy of the goal line. Kyle Simon-Guerin through four games on the season has recorded 12 total tackles and an interception.

Massimo Ferrone-Byrd (Special Teams) First-year running back Massimo Ferrone-Byrd earn the Week 4 'Special Teams Player of the Game' honours. Ferrone-Byrd, the criminal justice and public policy major from Woodbridge, ON is a tone-setter for the kickoff unit as a gunner, playing with a physicality that embodies the culture of special teams. Ferrone-Byrd saw action in kickoff return and kickoff coverage and also had 2 carries for 21 yards at running back on offence.
