GUELPH, Ont. –
Willem Arseneau (offence),
Gianni Green (defence) and
Ethan Garwe (special teams) have been named Gryphon Football 'Players of the Game' following the team's Week 6 46-0 victory over the Toronto Varsity Blues on Saturday, October 3.
Willem Arseneau (Offence)
Willem Arseneau is this week's 'Offensive Player of the Game' as he continues the hot streak he has been on these last two games. This is the second time this season the fourth-year receiver from Calgary has been named 'Offensive Player of the Game.' Arseneau picked up where he left off against Waterloo, and posted his second consecutive 100-yard receiving game against the Varsity Blues, finishing with 7 receptions for 118 yards and two touchdowns. The two first half touchdown grabs from Arseneau came from 35-yards and 6-yards out in the win. The marketing major has been one of the top receivers in the OUA this season and has 31 receptions (5th in OUA) for 552 yards (3rd in OUA) and 3 touchdowns receptions in the 2026 season. Arseneau has also been moving up the Gryphons all-time leaderboard as he is currently 5th in program history for most receiving yards in a career with 1,938. Arseneau has 96 total receptions in his Gryphon career and is four away from reaching the century mark in receptions.
Gianni Green (Defence)
This week's 'Defensive Player of the Game' is fifth-year defensive back
Gianni Green. The arts major from Mississauga had the team's lone takeaway in Guelph's 46-0 win over the Varsity Blues when he cut off the underthrown pass and picked it off for his first interception of the season. Green, and the entire Gryphon defence, was dominant in the shutout performance, holding the Varsity Blues to 184 total yards but more impressively, only giving up 81 total passing yards. Green is currently 6th on the team with 16 total tackles and has an interception on the season.
Ethan Garwe (Special Teams)
Ethan Garwe had one punt return in the win over Toronto and made the most of it as he has been named 'Special Teams Player of the Game.' With the Varsity Blues punting for the first time in the game, the second-year receiver from Toronto fielded the punt at his own 13-yard line and was able to find a seam and shed two Toronto would-be tacklers before finding open space for his first career punt return touchdown which totalled 98-yards for the game's opening score of the afternoon. It wouldn't be the last time the arts major from Whitby would find the end zone as he made a return trip on his team's first offensive possession, making a 15-yard touchdown reception. Garwe finished the game with 5 receptions for 71 yards and a receiving TD.
