GUELPH, Ont. - On Wednesday, January 28, 2026, the U SPORTS office and Wrestling Canada released their latest national rankings for the 2025-26 season. Five University of Guelph varsity teams headline the latest rankings. Men's track and field remains at No. 1 as the top ranked track and field team in the country, the women's team rises two spots to No. 2 while women's hockey also rises two spots to No. 6. Track and Field – Men No. 1 and Women No. 2
In the this week's track and field rankings, the Gryphons men's team holds down the top spot in the country at No. 1 while the women's team climbs two spots to No. 2. The U of G track program was in Albuquerque, New Mexico over the weekend (Jan. 23-24) for the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Invitational, hosted by the University of New Mexico. The highlight of the meet came from second year sprinter Diana Proctor. The Edmonton native in the women's 300m clocked in a time of 37.05s to set a new school and Canadian record en route to event win in Albuquerque. The music major broke the previous school record held by 2024 Olympian Zoe Sherar. Proctor also became the Canadian U-23 record holder in the women's 300m with her time of 37.05s, breaking a 43-year-old record which was set by Angela Bailey. The new record also booked Proctor's spot in the 2026 U SPORTS Track and Field Championships in the discipline. Joining Proctor at nationals in the women's 300m is Gabby Cole and
Nicole McKenzie who also reached the U SPORTS auto standard mark over the weekend. Cole raced to a personal best time of 37.84 to earn her spot in Winnipeg while McKenzie booked her second ticket to nationals in the women's 300m after setting a new school record in the women's 600m earlier in the season. The Gryphons track and field team will be in State College, PA for the Penn State National Open and Toronto for the York Open this weekend (Jan. 30-31).
Wrestling – Men No. 5 and Women No. 7
The Gryphons wrestling team holds steady in the latest Wrestling Canada rankings with the men at No. 5 and women No. 7. The Gryphons on Saturday (Jan. 24) hosted the Guelph Open from the Guelph Gryphons Athletics Centre which was highlighted by Avy Hunyady in the women's 55kg as she finished in 3rd place after winning her 3rd place match.
Anthony Fonte (men's 125kg) and
Kylee Lubbers (women's 72kg) finished in the 4th place in their weight class after reaching the 3rd place match. The Gryphons wrestling team is off this week before they turn their attention to the OUA Wrestling Championship on February 7 from London.
Women's Hockey – No. 6
The Gryphons women's hockey team moves up two spots to No. 6 in the latest U SPORTS ranking after sweeping their weekend road trip against TMU and Queen's. On Friday night (Jan. 23) in Toronto, the Captain
Katherine Heard was the hero for the Gryphs, scoring the game's lone goal in overtime to defeat the Bold 1-0. A quick turnaround the following afternoon in Kingston when they took on the then No. 10-ranked Gaels where a pair of
Maeve Sutherland-Case goals helped Guelph a 4-1 road victory. The Gryphons are currently in 2nd place in the OUA West division with a 15-2-3 record. The women's hockey team are back on home ice this week when they host the No. 8-ranked Waterloo Warriors on Wednesday night (Jan. 28) and the Toronto Varsity Blues on Saturday (Jan. 31).
