GUELPH, Ont. – Throughout the 2025-26 season, the University of Guelph Department of Athletics will be highlighting various members from our Gryphon varsity programs as part of our 'Gryph's Locker Athletes of the Week, presented by POWERADE' series.
Rebecca Parker (women's track and field) and
Colsen Flemington (men's curling) have been named 'Gryphon Athletes of the Week' for the period covering January 12 to 18, 2026.
Rebecca Parker (Women's Track and Field)
Fifth-year Gryphon track and field pentathlete and long jumper
Rebecca Parker earns this week's 'Gryphon Athlete of the Week' honours. At the Cornell Upstate Challenge on Saturday (Jan. 17), Parker had the longest jump in the women's long jump to earn the victory as she shattered the University of Guelph program record with a 6.22m jump. The Windsor native broke the previous school record held by recently graduated,
Milenne Habash, at 6.12m which was set last season. Parker also holds the current school record and OUA record in the women's pentathlon with a total of 4141 points, which she set at last season's OUA Track and Field Championships in her gold medal-winning performance. The criminal justice and public policy major has already booked her spot at the 2026 U SPORTS Track and Field Championships in the long jump by reaching the U SPORTS standard mark at last week's Lancer Can Am Classic in Windsor.
Colsen Flemington (Men's Curling)
Colsen Flemington is this week's 'Gryphon Athlete of the Week' recipient following an outstanding weekend for the Gryphons men's curling team. Flemington is a first-year lead on the men's curling team which competed at the Brock Invitational over the weekend (Jan. 17-18) where he helped his side to a 3-1 record in the event with wins over Queen's, Ottawa and Algoma. The Oakville native had an 85% shooting percentage in his team's four matches while also playing a crucial role in his team's judgment and sweeping over the course of the tournament helping secure key wins for his side. Flemington curls out of the Oakville Country Club and came to the University of Guelph as a solid recruit. The first-year lead represented Ontario during the 2023-24 season at the U-18 National Championship In Ottawa, helping lead the team to a 4-2 record and a playoff appearance. Flemington and the rest of the Gryphon men's curling team in just over two weeks' time will head to Welland to compete in the 2026 OUA Men's Curling Championship, taking place from February 6 to 8.
