GUELPH, Ont. – Throughout the 2025-26 season, the University of Guelph Department of Athletics will be highlighting various members from our Gryphon varsity programs as part of our 'Gryph's Locker Athletes of the Week, presented by POWERADE' series.
Kobe Faust (men's rugby) and
Christina Morra (women's basketball) have been named 'Gryphon Athletes of the Week' for the period covering November 10 to 16, 2025.
Kobe Faust (Men's Rugby)
Kobe Faust has been named this week's 'Athlete of the Week' as he was one of key drivers for the Gryphons men's rugby team in their national championship run. Faust, the fifth-year centre and team captain,
led the Gryphons to their first national championship in program history over the weekend at the 2025 Canadian University Men's Rugby Championships in Montreal. On Friday (Nov. 14) in their semifinal match against the UBC Thunderbirds, Faust led the charge for the Gryphons, scoring his team's only try while making two penalty tries in the final five minute of the match to help send his team to the gold medal game as he was named 'Man of the Match.' The Uxbridge, Ontario native played an important role in in the gold medal game against ÉTS Piranhas on Sunday (Nov. 16), helping set up the team's first try of the game as his presence was felt throughout the match as his kick out of bounds helped seal the victory for the Guelph. The management major earned 'Man of the Match' honours and was named 'Player of the Tournament' for his play and leadership as his side became the first Ontario team to win the Spence McTavish Cup in its nine-year history.
Christina Morra (Women's Basketball)
Christina Morra was a huge interior presence in the paint for the Gryphons women's basketball team in a pair of wins this past weekend, as she has earned 'Athlete of the Week' honours. Morra, in her first season as a Gryphon while pursuing her Masters in public health, helped lead her team to a pair of victories over the Lakehead Thunderwolves and Toronto Varsity Blues. On Friday night (Nov. 14) against Lakehead, Morra had herself a 15 point, 11 rebound double-double to lead all scorers on night in Guelph's 61-46 win. She also had two blocks and made 7 of her 8 free throws. The following night (Nov. 15) in Toronto, Morra continued her mastery from the charity stripe making 14 of her 16 free throws, causing plenty of problems in the paint for the Varsity Blues throughout the game in her team's 69-60 win. She finished as the game's leading scorer with 18 points to go along with her 8 rebounds. Morra and the rest Gryphons (6-2) women's basketball team are back in action at the GGAC for a pair of home games before the winter break when they host the McMaster Marauders on Wednesday night (Nov. 19) before the Brock Badgers come to town for a Saturday afternoon (Nov. 22) matchup.
