Top 10 Rankings (Jan. 21, 2026): Five Gryphon Teams Ranked Nationally in Latest Rankings

GUELPH, Ont. - On Wednesday, January 21, 2026, the U SPORTS office and Wrestling Canada released their latest national rankings for the 2025-26 season. Five University of Guelph varsity teams headline the latest rankings. Men's track and field sits atop of the first track and field rankings of the season as the women come in at No. 4. The Men's wrestling team is at No. 5, the women's wrestling team lands at No. 7 and women's hockey drops one spot to No. 8 in the latest rankings. Women's basketball dropped out of the U SPORTS Top 10 following their weekend split on the road. For more information on the latest U SPORTS rankings, head to usports.ca.

Track and Field – Men No. 1 and Women No. 4
 
In the first installment of the U SPORTS track and field rankings, the men's team see themselves as the top ranked team in the country while the women come in as the No. 4-ranked team in the country. The University of Guelph track program had meets in Ithica, Toronto and London over the past weekend. In Ithica, NY at the Cornell Upstate Challenge, Rebecca Parker set a new school record in the women's long jump with a jump of 6.22m as she came through with the win in the women's long jump. Alexandra Harris (women's triple jump) and Mark Warner (men's 300m) booked their spot at the U SPORTS Track and Field Championships after earning an auto bid. Keon Rude also booked his spot at nationals in the Golden Bear Open, gaining automatic qualification in the men's 60m hurdles with a time of 8.03s. The Gryphons will return to action this weekend at the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Invitational taking place Albuquerque, New Mexico.
 
Wrestling – Men No. 5 and Women No. 7
 
The Gryphons wrestling team lands in the latest national rankings with the men's team at No. 5 and the women's team at No. 7. The wrestling team competed in the Western Open over the weekend which saw four Gryphons earning top 3 finishes. Tristan Cako won all four of his matches to earn the win the men's 61kg weight class, Anthony Fonte finished in 2nd place in the men's 125kg after reaching the final. Brooklyn Glasgow (women's 53kg) and Kaleigh Bruce (women's 59kg) both earned 3rd place finishes in their respective weight classes. The Gryphons wrestling team will now prepare to host the Guelph Open on Saturday (Jan. 24) from the Guelph Gryphons Athletics Centre.
 
Women's Hockey – No. 8
 
The Gryphons women's hockey team dropped a spot to No. 8 in the latest rankings following their weekend split on the road. On Friday night (Jan. 16), the Gryphons shutout the York Lions 3-0 as Sophie Helfenstein stopped all 25 shots she saw for her 6th shutout of the season. The following afternoon (Jan. 17) in Waterloo, the Gryphons took on the Warriors in a matchup between two nationally ranked programs as three 3rd period goals from the hosts sees the Gryphs fall 4-1. Guelph is currently in second in the OUA West division with a 13-2-3 regular season record. The women's hockey team is back on the road when they take on the TMU Bold on Friday night (Jan. 23) before making their way to Kingston for a Saturday afternoon (Jan. 24) matchup against the Queen's Gaels.
