GUELPH, Ont. – The 2025 winter semester playoff season will officially kick off this weekend when the Gryphons women's curling team travels to Sudbury to compete in the 2025 OUA Women's Curling Championships from Idylwylde Golf & Country Club. The Gryphons will be eyeing a podium finish after making through to the knockout round last year but were eliminated in quarterfinals. The tournament is set to get underway on Friday, January 31 at 8am with the Gryphons starting pool play at 11:30am. The top three teams at the OUA Championships will head to nationals in Lethbridge, Alberta (Feb. 24-28, 2025).

The Gryphons see all five players from last year's team return as they look to improve on their quarterfinal finish from a season ago. Veteran skip Jill Uniacke brings a lot of experience to the U of G curling team. Uniacke, pursuing her masters in criminology and criminal justice policy, most recently competed at the Canadian Mixed National Championships in November 2024 for Team Ontario alongside recently graduated Gryphons
Daniel Del Conte and
Jayden King. Abby Parkinson (vice) and
Liana Flanagan (second) both are entering their second season with the team after impressing in their freshman season as they will be competing in their second OUA Curling Championship.
Monica Tanguay returns as the team's lead as this marks her third time competing at the OUA Championships. Finally,
Sarah Woodward rounds out the team and will serve as the alternate.
The Gryphons will open up play on Friday (Jan. 31) at 11:30am as they are featured in 'Pool A' with Laurentian, Western and Windsor.
