GAME PREVIEW
This year's game marks the 12th edition of the Frosty Mug, with the
most recent meeting taking place back on January 23, 2020, where the Gryphons defeated the Golden Hawks 4-3 in front of a Frosty Mug-record crowd of 4,942 fans.

This year, capacity limits have been set at 50% at the Sleeman Centre, meaning a maximum of 2,500 fans will be allowed to watch from the home venue of the Ontario Hockey League's Guelph Storm.
Shawn Camp has been behind the Gryphon bench for each of the previous 11 editions of the Frosty Mug. Now in his 15th season as head coach of the University of Guelph men's hockey team, Camp is well aware of the increased amount of energy that comes along with playing in the Frosty Mug. "The Frosty Mug is always one of the most exciting games of the season and something that everyone looks forward to," says Camp, who has brought a pair of OUA championships to U of G during his time as head coach of the men's hockey program, winning the Queen's Cup in 2014-15 and 2019-20. "Each year, this game provides us with an opportunity to showcase our Gryphon brand with the entire Guelph community, and we are excited to continue on with that tradition."
The Gryphons have enjoyed considerable success over the years in The Frosty Mug, posting a record of 7-3-1 through the first 11 editions of the event.

This year's game takes on increased importance for the Gryphons in terms of their pursuit of a berth into the OUA playoffs. Typically, the Gryphons men's hockey team would play a 28-game regular season schedule. This season, due to the pandemic, the total number of games has been reduced to 17 total regular season games. The Gryphons (2-8-1) have six games remaining on their regular season schedule, and currently sit five points back of Laurier (5-5-0) for the final playoff spot in the OUA Far West Division. Of the final six games remaining for the Gryphons, two will come against the Golden Hawks, who will also visit Guelph on March 9 for a matchup at the Gryphon Centre Arena.
"This year's Frosty Mug is an extremely important one for us as we make our final push towards the playoffs," adds Shawn Camp, who prior to joining the Gryphons in 2007 had spent seven years coaching in the OHL, including serving as head coach of the 2003-04 OHL champion Guelph Storm. "Playing in front of a Frosty Mug crowd has always been a special moment for everyone involved on our team and we know that Thursday night will be a great game against a tough opponent."
