MHKY: Nolan Dann Named OUA West MVP and Nathan Allensen Named OUA West Defenceman of the Year

BURLINGTON, Ont. – On Thursday, March 12, Ontario University Athletics (OUA) announced their major award winners and all-stars for the 2025-26 season as two student-athletes of the Gryphons men's hockey team earning conference-wide recognition. Nolan Dann was named OUA West MVP and Nathan Allensen was named OUA Defenceman of the Year with both Gryphon standouts being named to the All-Stars on the first team.

Nolan Dann magnificent second season on the Gryphons men's hockey team sees him being named the OUA West MVP for the 2025-26 season. Dann becomes the fifth player in program history to be named MVP. The Cambridge, Ontario native was one of the driving forces for his team's first playoff appearance since the 2019-20 season, helping the Gryphons reach the quarterfinal stage. Dann finished the season as the conference leading point scorer, collecting 40 points in his 25 games played in the regular season. The arts major was 4th in the OUA with 26 assists and was tied for the team lead with 14 goals scored as he was a key figure in Guelph's 99 goals scored (tied for 3rd in OUA) throughout the 28-game season. The former Flint Firebird (OHL) during the regular season had 10 multi-point games including a pair of four-point efforts as he closed out the season on a 10-game point streak, collecting 17 points during that span. The second year forward carried over his regular season form into the postseason, scoring three times in his team's five postseason games. Nolan Dann was also named an OUA First Team All-Star, becoming the first Gryphon alongside his teammate Nathan Allensen since the 2021-22 season to be named an All-Star.

Nathan Allensen is the OUA Defenceman of the Year following a breakout season which saw the fourth-year defenceman establish himself as one of the top blueliners in the conference. The management major at the University of Guelph played in all 28 games in the regular season where he finished with the second most points among blueliners in the OUA with 28 points, scored the third most goals with 8 and was tied with second most helpers among defenceman with 20 assists. Allensen had 9 multi-point games including picking up three assists in a game on four occasions this season. One of the highlights for the Waterloo native was on January 10 at Brock where he scored the game winning goal in overtime. Allensen is the leader and team captain of the Gryphons, helping lead his side to the OUA Quarterfinals and their first postseason appearance in five seasons. The former Barrie Colt had a strong postseason, collecting 3 points including scoring in Game 3 against Laurier to send his team onto the quarterfinals. This is only the second time in program history, a Gryphon defenceman has been named OUA Defenceman of the Year. Allensen was also named an OUA First Team All-Star for the first time in his four seasons with the Gryphons.
