HAMILTON, ON - Wednesday night at Ron Joyce Stadium in Hamilton, the Gryphons women's soccer team edged the Marauders 2-1 thanks to an 86th minute goal from second year striker Hayley Howes (Windsor, ON). With the win, the Gryphons remain undefeated on the season and now sit at 3-0-2 (wins-losses-draws) while McMaster falls to 0-4-2.

After earning a hard fought 1-0 victory over McMaster earlier this season back on September 2nd, the Gryphons once again found themselves in a tight, one-goal match with the Marauders on Wednesday night in Hamilton. The Gryphons were able to jump out to a 1-0 lead in the 14th minute thanks to a goal from rookie forward Jacquie Preza (Milton, ON). Preza made an impressive run down the right wing before sending a perfectly placed shot inside the far post. It was Preza's second goal of the season.

McMaster was able to tie the game at 1-1 in the 62nd minute when a shot from Maila Carboni found its way through heavy traffic and into the Gryphons net.

The two teams would remain knotted at 1-1 until late in regulation. In the 86th minute however, Gryphon forward Hayley Howes would seal the three points for the Gryphons when she was able to get in behind the Mac defenders and finish off a low cross from close range for her first goal of the 2016 season.

The Gryphons will next be in action when they face the No. 4-ranked team in the country in the York Lions (5-0-0). The Gryphons and Lions will meet up in a battle of two undefeateds on Sunday, Sept. 18 at Alumni Stadium. The game will air on tape delay Sunday evening Rogers TV Cable 20 for viewers in the Guelph region and will also be available live online at oua.tv.
