GUELPH, Ont. – The longest undefeated stretch in program history continued on Sunday afternoon (Oct. 4) for the Guelph Gryphons women's soccer team, who defeated the Waterloo Warriors by a score of 2-0. With the win, the Gryphons improve to 9-0-0 on the season and are just one of four teams across the country to have taken all three points in every game played this season (with the UBC Thunderbirds, Calgary Dinos and Montreal Carabins the only other women's soccer teams with perfect records).
The Gryphons, ranked No. 5 in the country in the latest national rankings, were able to open the scoring in the 40th minute on Sunday afternoon against Waterloo, with third-year winger
Isabella Trepanier (Belle River, ON) scoring her third of the season, and second in her past three games, to put Guelph ahead 1-0. Shortly after halftime, the Gryphons would extend their lead to 2-0 thanks to the reigning national player of the year,
Olivia Rizakos (Toronto, ON), who scored her team-leading 7th goal of the season to help the Gryphons secure a ninth straight victory. Gryphons goalkeeper
Natalie Mouradian (Kitchener, ON) made two saves while recording the clean sheet. With the loss, the Waterloo Warriors fall to 2-7-0 on the season.
The Gryphons now have three games remaining in their regular season schedule, and will be back in action on Friday, October 9 when they host the McMaster Marauders (3-3-3) with kickoff at the Gryphon Soccer Complex set for 6pm.
