GUELPH, Ont. - The Guelph Gryphons women's soccer team, ranked No. 5 in the country in the latest national rankings, kept their 2026 undefeated season intact on Friday night (Oct. 9) with a 2-1 home win over the McMaster Marauders. Gryphons second-year midfielder
Ava Hunyady (Guelph, ON) opened the scoring in the 19th minute, with the marketing management major firing a perfectly placed shot from just outside the 18-yard box into the bottom right corner of the net to give the Gryphons a 1-0 lead. After the Marauders tied the game at 1-1 with a goal off of a corner in the 20th minute, the Gryphons would score the match-winner from the penalty spot, with reigning national player of the year,
Olivia Rizakos (Toronto, ON) converting from the spot in the 61st minute to give the Gryphons the 2-1 lead. For Rizakos, it marked her team-leading 8th goal of the season (ranking her 5th in the OUA in that category), and third in the last four games. With the win, the Gryphons improve to 10-0-0 on the season and remain the only team in Ontario to have taken three points in every match this season. The McMaster Marauders meanwhile fall to 3-5-3. The Gryphons are now two games away from completing the first undefeated regular season in program history, and will return to action on Friday, Oct. 16 with a tough road trip to St. Catharines to face the Brock Badgers (6-2-3). The Gryphons will then return to the Gryphon Soccer Complex on Sunday, Oct. 18 for the final game of their regular season when they host the Laurier Golden Hawks (4-2-3).
