Gryphons fall to Golden Hawks 5-1 ending season


WATERLOO – The Guelph Gryphon women's soccer team dropped a 5-1 quarterfinal playoff game to the CIS No. 6 Laurier Golden Hawks this afternoon in Waterloo.  The Gryphons end their 2012 season with an 8-3-5 regular season record and 1-1 playoff record.
 
Playing in cold and wet conditions Laurier's Emily Brown scored a hat-trick to lead the Golden Hawks in the victory advancing them to their fifth consecutive OUA final four tournament.
 
After a couple of failed chances, Guelph broke Laurier keeper Katrina Ward's  shutout in the 90th minute when Katie Casucci of Niagara Falls, Ont., just got the ball over the line.
 
The Gryphons and Golden Hawks were even in shots on net with 12-apiece, led by fourth-year Erica Bain's of Niagara Falls, Ont. three shots on net.  In net rookie Alex King (Ottawa) made seven saves.
