WOMEN'S SOCCER - Gryphons lose first home game 1-0 to Badgers
GUELPH, Ont. - The Guelph Gryphons lost a close 1-0 final against the Brock Badgers this afternoon (Sept. 11) at the new Gryphon Soccer Complex in Guelph. Â
The two teams were well-matched but the Gryphons lost the game after a second half goal by Brock forward Lindsay McDonald (Burlington, ON).
The Gryphons drop to 0-2-1, while the Badgers improve to 1-2-1.
During the first half both teams had multiple shots on net and challenged each other consistently. Guelph's
Victoria Cadman (Burlington, ON) managed to rip around Brock's defence and had an early chance at net but Brock's goalie Luciana Di Paolo (Newmarket, ON) deflected it out of range.
Melissa Corso (Unionville, ON) carried Guelph's defence and took on Brock's attacks without hesitation.

Courtney Whiteside (Guelph, ON) showed her speed and strength during the second half by out-running Brock defence and having multiple shots on net. Cadman continued to have opportunities in Brock's end but was unable to follow through with a goal.
The stalemate was finally broken when Brock forward McDonald broke through Gryphon lines after a free shot and fired the ball straight past Guelph goal-keep
Alexandra Keddy (Mississauga, ON) and into the net. The Gryphons fought hard for the rest of the match trying to tie up the score but they couldn't capture a goal. The game finished 1-0 for the Badgers.
The Gryphons next play the York Lions on September 17
th at York at 1pm.
