The Guelph Gryphon's women's team played a relentless match against the Windsor Lancer's on Sept. 4th at the Alumni Stadium, ending in a last minute 1-1 tie. 
 

During the first half the Windsor Lancers seemed to take the offensive lead against the Gryphons. With Kelly Riccardi (Tecumseh, ON), leading attacks against the Guelph defence, they had many close opportunities to score. However, thanks to the determination and relentless Gryphon defenders, all Lancer attempts were halted. 
 

In the 40th minute of the game there was an intense scrimmage outside of the Windsor net brought on by the Gryphon offence. With rainy conditions and a wet field, Jenny Dunn (Vancouver, B.C) had a brave, close encounter with Windsor goal-keep Rebecca Singer (Amherstburg, ON). The fight for goal proved the Gryphon's unwillingness to submit to the Lancers. 
 

The second half of the game was a back-and-forth play between both team's ends. With very little action, and only a few shots on net by both, it looked as though the game was going to remain 0-0. However, during the last two minutes of injury time the Gryphons took a quick lead and Dunn broke from the crowd, received a pass across the field, and fired the ball into the corner of the Lancer's net. 
 

Gryphon fans were still cheering for the Guelph goal when the Lancers sped up the field with only seconds left in the game, and Windsor midfielder Candace Garrod (Kingsville, ON) controlling the ball.  Gryphon goalie Joelle Chartrain (Calgary, AB) ran out to try and challenge the offence but was unable to stop them. Garrod shot the ball and it landed in the back of the open net, quickly ending the Gryphon lead. 
 

The Guelph Gryphon women's team next play the Western Mustangs tomorrow, Sept. 5th at home at Varsity Field. The game begins at 1.
