On a gorgeous Sunday afternoon the Gryphons Men's Rugby team hosted RMC on the east multi-purpose field.  With the two previous losses behind them, the Gryphons played a stormer, defeating RMC 41-12.  In all, eight different Gryphons made the score sheet by the end of the match.

After losing the season opener to RMC last year, the Gryphons had a lot to prove in this match.  Right from the opening kickoff they put RMC under pressure and basketball player turned rookie rugby lock Nick Walters scored first for the Gryphons with only 30 seconds gone in the match.  The Gryphons continued the scoring punch with Nate Lippert finding the in goal area only 5 minutes later.  Rookie winger Joe Newman was good with the first of three conversions on the day.  Up 12 nothing, the Gryphons gave RMC 7 points back when they scored their first try of the match.  Not to be out done by their rookie counter part Joe Newman making the score sheet, rookies  Robert Paris and Conner McCann both scored tries in the first half making the score 26 - to 7.  It remained that way until the dying seconds of the first half when RMC scored their second and last try of the day.

The second half was much like the first.  The Gryphons dominated the play and field position for the majority of the half.  With the wind in their face, they were unable to make it scoring position until later in the half.  In the last 10 minutes of the game, three more Gryphons made the score sheet.  Tries were scored by Mike Reid, Johnscott Beukeboom and Adam Maahs.

With the first win under their belt and a progression in their play, the Gryphons are gaining the confidence that they need going forward for the rest of the season.  The next game for the Gryphons is this Saturday at Waterloo where they will take on the Warriors in a home coming match.  The Warriors have put up some good scores and will be looking to derail the Gryphons from their current winning streak.
