GUELPH, Ont. – Throughout the 2026-27 season, the University of Guelph Department of Athletics will be highlighting various members from our Gryphon varsity programs as part of our 'Gryph's Locker Athletes of the Week, presented by POWERADE' series.
Jacqueline Giles (Women's Golf) and
William Drewery (Men's Golf) have been named 'Gryphon Athlete of the Week' for the period covering September 7 to 13, 2026.
Jacqueline Giles (Women's Golf)
A second-place finish for
Jacqueline Giles at the "Fall Kickoff" on Friday (Sept. 11) sees her take home this week's 'Gryphon Athlete of the Week' honours. Giles, studying her master's in public health had a good start to her final season with the golf program, shooting a 76 from Guelph Lakes Golf & CC to stake a 2nd place finish in the individual scoring race in a field of 42 golfers, finishing a stroke behind reigning OUA Champion Mia Wong from the University of Toronto. Jacqui Giles has had a decorated career in her five years at the University of Guelph, earning OUA All-Star status in all five years and was the OUA's individual champion in 2021. Giles and the rest of the Gryphon golf team will next tee off on Sunday (Sept. 20) at the Brock Invitational from Sawmill Golf Course in Fenwick, ON before competing at the Western's Women's Invitational from West Haven Golf & CC from London, ON on Monday (Sept. 21).
Will Drewery (Men's Golf)
Will Drewery is this week's 'Gryphon Athlete of the Week' after picking up a victory in the "Fall Kickoff" to open the golf season on Friday (Sept. 11). The third-year golfer from Hespeler, ON had the low round of the day, shooting a 67 to hold off his teammate Will Dodd to win the individual title in a field of 58 golfers from Guelph Lakes Golf & CC. The management major was an OUA Second Team All-Star in his first season at Guelph and was in contention for the individual title at last year's OUA Golf Championships, shooting a one-over round of 73 in the opening round. Drewery and the rest of the Gryphon golf team will next tee off on Sunday (Sept. 20) at the Brock Invitational from Sawmill Golf Course in Fenwick, ON before competing at the Western's Men's Invitational from St. Thomas Golf & CC from Union, ON on Monday (Sept. 21).
