OTTAWA, Ont. – For the first time in 26 years, and the fourth time in program history, the Guelph Gryphons men's golf team are OUA champions. And for just the second time in program history, a Guelph Gryphons women's golfer has been crowned OUA individual scoring champion, with fourth-year microbiology major
Ela Jones (Kincardine, ON) claiming the Judy McCrae Trophy as the top scorer at the provincial championships. One of the most memorable weekends in Gryphons golf history took place this weekend (October 17-18) in the nation's capital, with the 2026 OUA Golf Championships held at Hylands Golf Club in Ottawa. The Gryphons men's golf team (
William Drewery,
William Dodd,
Carson Skinner,
Andreas Diogenous and
Caleb Shorthouse) finished 1st in the overall team standings, marking the 4th conference banner in U of G men's golf program history (2026, 2000, 1992 & 1984). The Gryphons women's golf team claimed silver medals with a 2nd-place finish in the overall team standings, with
Ela Jones claiming the individual scoring title.
"I am so proud of both teams," said Gryphons golf coach,
Brian Bard. "The composure they displayed in tough weather conditions is why we had these great results. The men arrived at practice the first day this fall and made a commitment to win this year. To see it happen is fantastic. The women were so consistent all year it is only fitting they finished on the podium. And what a finish to her OUA career for
Ela Jones, she has had a stellar four years at Guelph."

Ela Jones, a fourth-year microbiology major at the University of Guelph, became just the second U of G women's golfer in program history to be named OUA individual scoring champion, joining her current Gryphon teammate
Jacqueline Giles who did so back in 2021. Jones, a 21-year-old from Kincardine, Ontario, posted rounds of 73 and 76, leading wire-to-wire in the two-day event and finishing an impressive 5 strokes clear of the next best golfer (Hannah Lee – Queen's Gaels).
Ela Jones takes home the Judy McCrae Trophy as the top finisher in a field of 52 golfers and earns OUA First Team All-Star status.
It marks the fourth straight year in which
Ela Jones has been named an OUA All-Star (twice as a First Team, twice as a Second Team).
Jacqueline Giles finished T-5 and also earned OUA First Team All-Star honours. Giles, who is pursuing her Master of Public Health at the University of Guelph, has been named an OUA All-Star in each season since arriving at U of G in 2021.
Kennedy Bergeron (35th) and
Ava Crane (38th) rounded out the scoring for the Gryphons OUA silver medal performance. The 2nd-place finish in the overall team standings matches a program-best result at an OUA Golf Championship, with the Gryphons also claiming silver back in 2024.
