Gabby Cole is this week's 'OUA Athlete of the Week' following her marvelous showcase showing at the 2026 U SPORTS Track and Field Championships. Cole, a fourth-year sprinter on the Gryphons women's track and field team, medaled in all four events she competed in over the three-day championship meet in Winnipeg. The Ajax, Ontario native got her meet off in grand fashion on Thursday (Mar. 5) in the women's 60m as she put down a blazing time of 7.20s in the women's 60m to claim U SPORTS gold as she set a new personal best mark while breaking her own school record in the process. The 7.20 time also matched the qualifying standard for the upcoming World Athletics Indoor Championships in Poland. Cole was just one-hundredth of a second short of the U23 and U SPORTS record of 7.19, set by Canadian Olympian Khamica Bingham back in 2015. Cole in the women's 300m on the following day (Mar. 6), took home the silver medal after clocking in with a time of 37.73s, finishing behind her teammate
Dianna Proctor as the Gryphons went 1-2 in the finals. The culture and technology major wrapped up her championships with a pair of relay medals, winning gold in the women's 4x400m relay alongside her teammates
Dianna Proctor,
Amira Lawrence and
Erika Lealess, and silver in the women's 4x200m relay alongside Proctor, Lawrence and
Nicole McKenzie, despite posting a time of 1:35.37 which broke the previous U SPORTS record as they were edged by the Saskatchewan Huskies Women's 4x200m relay team who set the new mark. Cole and the women's track and field team took home their 9th national championship in program history at the meet, posting a final score of 105 points as a team.
