BURLINGTON, Ont. – On Thursday afternoon (Oct. 22), Ontario University Athletics (OUA) announced the major award winners and all-star selections for the 2026 OUA field hockey season. Two Gryphon field hockey players,
Sophie Pomeroy and
Harper Griffin, earned OUA All-Star status, with Pomeroy being named OUA Outstanding Contributor.
Fourth-year forward
Sophie Pomeroy has been named OUA's 'Outstanding Contributor' for the 2026 season. Pomeroy, the bio-medical major becomes the third Gryphon in program history to be named OUA Outstanding Contributor, an award given annually to a field hockey student-athlete who excels academically, in leadership, in athletic achievement, and within community service. Sophie is the team captain of the Gryphons field hockey team and is a trusted leader among her teammates, creating an environment where individuals feel valued and supported. Pomeroy has established herself as one of the premier field hockey players in the conference, leading the OUA with 9 goals scored on the season. She is the catalyst of the Gryphon attack as a dynamic playmaker and finisher, creating scoring opportunities for herself and her teammates. Sophie has been an U SPORTS Academic All-Canadian for three consecutive seasons. Pomeroy has spent a significant amount of time developing young athletes and promoting sport participation throughout her community. She has coached field hockey for Nova Scotia's U18 developmental program, served as an assistant coach for the Armbrae Academy field hockey team and has helped introduce field hockey fundamentals to classes of 20 to 30 elementary school students across numerous schools in her hometown in the Halifax Regional Municipality. Pomeroy also volunteers with the Giacomantonio Immuno-Oncology Lab at Dalhousie University and she has participated in Motionball's Marathon of Sport, supporting Special Olympics athletes and helping create an inclusive, encouraging environment that promoted participation and enjoyment for athletes of all abilities. Pomeroy was also named an OUA All-Star for the first time in her Gryphon career.

Joining Pomeroy as an OUA All-Star is fifth-year midfielder
Harper Griffin. Griffin, the molecular biology and genetics major from Waterloo, was previously recognized by the OUA as the Rookie of the Year in 2022. Harper has been a model of consistency as a key member for the Gryphons this season, starting in all 12 of her team's games and scoring 3 goals on the season from her midfield position. She is known for her speed, circle-to-circle hustle and skillful dribbling paired with insightful playmaking. Griffin has helped set up scoring opportunities for her attackers with the Gryphons scoring the second most goals during the season with 28.
The Guelph Gryphons field hockey team will next be in action on Saturday, Oct. 24 at 11am at York University, when they face the OUA's top-seeded York Lions in an OUA semifinal matchup. The Gryphons have won five OUA titles in program history, and will head to York University for the OUA Final Four tournament this weekend in pursuit of a sixth, with the winner earning a spot at nationals.
