Field Hockey: Abby Warriner named U SPORTS Player of the Year for a Second Consecutive Year

CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. – On Wednesday night (Oct. 29) at the 2025 U SPORTS Field Hockey All-Canadian Awards, fifth-year standout midfielder Abby Warriner for the second consecutive year was named U SPORTS Player of the Year and was named an All-Canadian for a fourth time in her illustrious career as a Gryphon.

Abby Warriner for the second consecutive season takes home the Liz Hoffman Award as the most outstanding player of the year. Warriner becomes the first Gryphon to accomplish this feat since Brienne Stairs did it in 2009 and 2010. Warriner shares the award with Victoria's Libby Hogg as co-winners of the Liz Hoffman Award. The biomedical engineering major added a goal scoring element to her game this season, scoring 7 times in 8 games played, leading the team in goals, and was tied for 2nd in OUA. Warriner's seven goals was a career-high in a season for the standout midfielder. The Newmarket, ON native is the anchor in the Guelph midfield where her exceptional ball handling ability allows her team to transition from defence to attack. Warriner is the captain of the Gryphons field hockey team and helped lead them to a 7-1-2 regular record and a 4th place finish at the OUA Field Hockey Championships. Warriner was also named a U SPORTS All-Canadian for the fourth time in Gryphon career, becoming the first Gryphon since Krissy Wishart (2006-2009) to accomplish this feat.
