Gryphon Football 'Players of the Game' Week 5: Sept. 20, 2025 at McMaster

GUELPH, Ont.Willem Arseneau (offence), Deemetrius Masuka (defence) and Nicholas Metron (special teams) have been named Gryphon Football 'Players of the Game' following the team's Week 5 loss to the McMaster Marauders on Saturday, September 20.

Willem Arseneau (Offence)

Third-year receiver Willem Arseneau has been named the 'Offensive Player of the Game' for Week 5. The Calgary native finished the game against Marauders with 3 receptions for 48 yards and a touchdown. Arseneau made a nice sliding touchdown reception in the end zone from 7-yards out for his first TD of the season as his score got the team within 10 late in the game with a chance to rally back. The arts major has been the team's big play receiver on the season with 10 receptions for 200 yards, averaging 20 yards per reception.

Deemetrius Masuka (Defence)

Deemetrius Masuka earns 'Defensive Player of the Game' honours following an outstanding performance. Masuka came to Guelph this season as a grad transfer, and was suiting up against his former team on the weekend, with the former Marauder finishing the game as Guelph's leading tackler with 6 tackles (5 solo) to go along with a sack. The Hamilton native got the start at linebacker and played an important role in holding the Marauders to 326 total yards of offence, including just 46 yards on the ground on 27 attempts. Masuka in his three games played on the season has 9 total tackles and a sack.

Nicholas Metron (Special Teams)

Nicholas Metron takes home this week's 'Special Teams Player of the Game' honours. Metron, a third-year linebacker, played on three of the team's four core special teams units as he made his impact felt on punt return coverage. In the third quarter, the marketing management major made his only tackle of the game when he was able to work through two blocks and made an outstanding open field tackle on the 47-yard punt for no gain. The London native on the season has recorded 16 total tackles with 13 solo tackles in five games played.
